White crystals. Soluble in 10 times its volume of water and 10 times its volume of anhydrous ethanol. Extremely insoluble in ether.
It is obtained by the reaction of ethyl chloroacetate with ammonia. First, cool ethyl chloroacetate to below 10℃, then slowly add ammonia water (with a relative density of 0.9) while stirring. Immediately, white crystals precipitate. After adding all the ammonia water, continue stirring for 1 hour. Filter out the crystals, then wash them with ammonia water to remove ammonium chloride and dry them as much as possible to obtain the crude product. Finally, recrystallize it with ethanol to obtain the finished product.
