IPA Isopropyl Alcohol CAS 67-63-0, IPA Isopropyl Alcohol, CAS 67-63-0
Isopropyl alcohol (CAS 67-63-0), as a multifunctional solvent and chemical raw material, is widely used in the fields of medicine, electronics, daily chemicals, etc. However, its flammability, toxicity and metabolic toxicity need to be strictly protected against. In the future, as the demand for the semiconductor industry grows, high-purity electronic-grade isopropyl alcohol (purity ≥99.5%) will become a development focus.

Chemical formula: C₃H₈O
Molecular weight: 60.095 g/mol
Appearance: Colorless and transparent liquid with a mixed odor similar to that of ethanol and acetone.
Physical constant
Melting point: -89.5°C
Boiling point: 82.5°C
Density: 0.785 g/cm³ (20°C)
Flash point: 11.7°C (flammable liquid).
Solubility: It is miscible with most solvents such as water, ethanol, ether and chloroform, and can dissolve non-polar substances such as oils, resins and alkaloids.
Industry and Chemical Engineering
Solvent: Widely used in the production of coatings, inks, adhesives, pesticides (such as cypermethrin), fragrances and cosmetics, it has a stronger dissolving power for lipophilic substances than ethanol.
Chemical raw materials: It is used to produce acetone, methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, etc., and is also used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical (such as propranolol) and pesticide intermediates.
Electronic cleaning: High-purity isopropyl alcohol is used for cleaning and degreasing semiconductor components and integrated circuits.
Pharmaceuticals and daily chemicals
Disinfectant: The best bactericidal effect is achieved at a concentration of 70%, and it is used for skin and medical device disinfection (but it is prone to decomposition when exposed to alkali).
Cosmetics: As a moisturizer, antibacterial agent and solvent, it regulates the texture of the product and prevents microbial contamination.
Laboratory usage:
Chromatographic analysis standard substances (for the determination of elements such as potassium and calcium);
DNA precipitation, cell cryopreservation and instrument disinfection.
Health hazard
Inhalation: High concentration vapor irritates the respiratory tract, causing headache, dizziness, and even coma (immediate life-threatening concentration ≥20,000 ppm).
Oral administration: More toxic than ethanol. 20ml can cause poisoning, and 120-240ml can be fatal. The metabolic product acetone leads to ketoacidosis.
Skin/eye contact: Causes dryness, irritation or moderate damage.
Carcinogenicity: The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies it as a Group 3 carcinogen (insufficient evidence of carcinogenicity to humans).
Explosion risk: Low flash point (11.7°C), explosion limit 2.0% to 12.7%. Keep away from fire sources and oxidants.
