OCIMENE Uses

Ocimene is a monoterpene compound that exists naturally in plants such as basil, mango, and lavender. Its synthetic version is widely used due to its low cost and high stability.

I. Daily chemical and flavor industry

Perfume and fragrance products:

Ocimene has a fresh, sweet herbal aroma with a slight floral and fruity scent. It is often used to prepare the middle or top notes of perfume. For example, it is paired with roses, jasmine, etc. to increase the natural freshness.

Skin care products and toiletries:

As a fragrance ingredient, it is added to shower gels, shampoos, and hand creams to provide a pleasant smell. At the same time, it is suitable for sensitive skin products because of its low allergenicity.

II. Food industry

Edible flavor additives

Ocimene is used to simulate natural fruit or herbal flavors. It is common in juices and teas to enhance the aroma of tropical fruits (such as mango and lychee). It is also common in the candy and baked food industry, giving natural plant fragrance and reducing the chemical feel of artificial flavors.

Regulatory compliance

Must comply with food safety standards of various countries (such as FDA, EFSA), usually used as "natural equivalent fragrance".

III. Pharmaceutical and biologically active applications

Drug flavoring agent:

Mask the taste of medicine in oral liquid and lozenges to improve patient acceptance.

Potential biological activity:

Antibacterial effect: inhibit certain Gram-positive bacteria.

Antioxidant: delay lipid oxidation, or be used in functional skin care products.

Antidylserine effect: as a substitute for natural mosquito repellent ingredients.
