Lithium hydroxide is one of the most important lithium compounds, and it exists in two forms: anhydrous LiOH and LiOH·H2O. Anhydrous LiOH is a white cubic crystalline particle or flowable powder, with a relative density of 1.45 g/cm³, a melting point of 471.2℃, and a boiling point of 1620℃. Monohydrated lithium hydroxide is a white hygroscopic single crystal powder, with a density of 1.51 g/cm³, a melting point of 680℃. When the temperature is above 100℃, it loses its crystalline water and becomes anhydrous LiOH. Lithium hydroxide dissolves in water and is slightly soluble in alcohols. It readily absorbs CO2 in the air to form Li2CO3. Lithium hydroxide and its concentrated solutions are corrosive. At normal temperatures, they can corrode glass and ceramics.
LiOH is one of the main raw materials for producing high-grade lithium-based lubricating grease. Lithium hydroxide has a wide range of applications, mainly in chemical raw materials, chemical reagents, battery industries, petroleum, metallurgy, glass, ceramics, and also in the defense industry, atomic energy industry and aerospace industry. Lithium-based lubricating grease produced using lithium hydroxide has a long service life, strong water resistance, good fire resistance, is not prone to oxidation, and maintains stable performance during multiple heating-cooling-heating cycles. It is suitable for a temperature range of -50℃ to +300℃ and is widely used in military equipment, aircraft, automobiles, rolling mills, and various mechanical transmission parts for lubrication. In the battery industry, lithium hydroxide is used as an additive in alkaline batteries and nickel-hydrogen batteries, which can extend battery life and increase storage capacity.
It is mainly used as a raw material for the production of lithium compounds. It can also be used in metallurgy, petroleum, glass, ceramics and other industries.
It is used for the production of lithium salts and lithium-based lubricating grease, electrolytes for alkaline batteries, absorption liquids for lithium bromide refrigeration machines, etc.
