3-Methyl-4-isopropylphenol (abbreviated as IPMP), also known as 5-ol of adjacent umbelliferone, is an antibacterial and disinfectant agent. Its structure consists of a phenol, an isopropyl group and a methyl group. IPMP is a white to pale yellow crystalline powder. Chemically, it is slightly soluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and propylene glycol. IPMP can extend the shelf life of products. The upper limit of its addition is 0.1%, and it is widely used as an antibacterial and preservative agent in industries such as personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and household products.
