p-Toluenesulfonic acid (molecular structure: p-CH3C6H4SO3H, also written as TsOH, English name: P-Toluene Sulfonic Acid) is abbreviated as PTS. It is an organic strong acid without oxidizing properties. It is a white needle-like or powder-like crystal that is soluble in water, alcohols, ethers, and other polar solvents. It is highly hygroscopic and easily causes wood and cotton fabrics to lose moisture and carbonize. It is insoluble in benzene and toluene; when alkaline, it generates p-cresol.
p-Toluenesulfonic acid is widely used in the synthesis of medicines, pesticides, stabilizers for polymer reactions, catalysts for organic synthesis (esters, etc.), intermediates for coatings and resin curing agents. It is a commonly used acid catalyst in organic synthesis. By neutralizing it with sodium hydroxide, p-toluenesulfonic acid sodium can be obtained. Chemicalbook can then react with pentachlorophosphorus to produce p-toluenesulfonyl chloride. This latter substance is used in nucleophilic substitution reactions and also serves as a protecting group for alcohol hydroxyl groups. The uses of p-toluenesulfonic acid include catalyzing the protection of dihydrofuran groups on alcohols, esterification of carboxylic acids, ester exchange reactions, and converting aldehydes into acetaldehydes, etc.
Toluenesulfonic acid is widely used in the synthesis of medicines, pesticides, stabilizers for polymer reactions, and catalysts for organic synthesis (such as esters). It is also used as an intermediate in medicine and coatings, as well as a curing agent for resins.
Used in medicine, pesticides, dyes and detergents, also in plastics and printing coatings
Toluenesulfonic acid can be used as an intermediate in medicines (such as doxycycline), pesticides (such as trichloroendosulfan), dyes, etc. It is also used in detergents, plastics, coatings, and other fields.
Used as a chemical reagent, it is also employed in dyes and organic synthesis.
